Friends are remembering Rose Cutknife as a good and generous woman with many friends.

Cutknife was fatally stabbed Thursday morning just north of downtown Edmonton.

Homicide detectives are investigating Cutknife's death as suspicious and were still on scene at 100th Street and 105AAvenue Thursday afternoon.

Police tape blocked off an alley and parking lot next to the nearby George Spady Centre where police found Cutknife injured and lying on the ground. She died in hospital.

(Boyle Street's Ian Mathieson says for many in the street community, Rose Cutknife's death is like losing a family member.)

Staff at Boyle street said Cutknife's death is hard on everyone  — including many George Spady who witnessed the altercation outside George Spady. and many who consider the community to be their "street family," the ones who look out for them and kept them safe.

"Sometimes those people are the only people they have, so a loss is like losing a family member," said Ian Mathieson, Boyle Street's director of operations. "And sadly it's a tragedy and a trauma that the folks that we are work with aren't unfamiliar with."

Support services are being offered to clients and staff in need.

An autopsy has been scheduled for tomorrow morning.
