视频：Edmonton police, EMS and Alberta Sheriffs taped off the steps of the Alberta Legislature after a man shot himself there on Monday afternoon. An adjournment was called during question period Monday after a man fatally shot himself outside the Alberta Legislature at around 3 p.m. A witness told Global News a man shot himself with a handgun on the front steps. Police officers were seen performing CPR on a body on the steps. Police taped off the area and covered the body with a pink blanket. Members of the legislature were debating a private member’s bill when discussion was halted and an adjournment was called due to a health and safety concern. The house was adjourned until 7:30 p.m. Edmonton police confirmed the incident is non-criminal. In a news release, the office of the speaker of the legislature said there was “a security incident shortly after 3 p.m… involving a firearm” on the front steps. Staff said there is no danger to anyone else on scene and “the matter has been contained by security and the Edmonton Police Service.” Alberta Sheriffs are helping hold the scene, the 4:30 p.m. news release explained. In a message on Twitter, Premier Jason Kenney said he was “saddened by the tragic event that occurred outside the legislature. “Our hearts go out to the victim’s family and loved ones,” he tweeted. “If you need help, or know someone who does, please call Alberta’s Mental Health Helpline: 1-877-303-2642.” Opposition leader Rachel Notley also shared the helpline on social media. “My deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the individual involved in today’s tragic incident,” she tweeted.
