The suspected gunman and a second man who was in the vehicle have since been charged with attempted murder by police. “There’s no doubt in my mind these two guys did save lives. Had they not been there it would have been a lot worse,” Wallace said of his colleagues. “They grabbed (the suspect) with zero hesitation. They grabbed him after the first shot. The second and third shots went while they wrestled with (the suspect).” Officials say around 1:30 a.m. Sunday three men in a vehicle pulled in front of the nightclub at 1140 1oth Ave. S.W. and as two men waited in the car, the third walked to the front door of the club and fired several shots. A 38-year-old man remained in hospital Sunday with a serious injury after he was struck by a bullet. The victim suffered from a serious soft-tissue injury to his upper torso and was rushed to hospital in stable condition, according to EMS. Wallace said he watched in shock as glass on the nightclub’s front door “exploded” when a bullet hit a patron in the packed club. “I saw a guy hit in the chest, he dropped,” Wallace said. “Your brain doesn’t even register it as a gunshot for the first half a second.”  Calgary police are investigating after a man was shot at 1:30 a.m. at a bar at 1140 10th Ave. S.W. on Jan. 10, 2016. At the same time, people inside the establishment realized what was happening and began to scream, yell and stampede for any exit they could see. “People just start running for the doors… everyone tries to run out the back or the side door,” recalled Wallace, who has worked security at the club patting down guests for three months. The police’s gang suppression unit happened to be nearby at the time of the shooting and heard the gunshots. The suspect, who was immediately tackled by bar staff, was taken into custody. Wallace said the suspect was “screaming death threats” as he was arrested by police. Det. Andy Nguyen said the bar was full at the time of the shooting. After the incident, patrons were encouraged to stay in the club and transit buses were brought in to house witnesses that police needed to interview. Security footage of the incident shows the suspect exiting a vehicle that stopped about 15 feet from the nightclub’s front doors, according to Wallace. “You can see the gun in his right hand, it’s not a small pistol. He gets about five feet away form the door, flips his hood up, aims his gun and starts firing,” he said. While two of the three men were taken into custody in connection with the incident, police said a passenger in the vehicle attempted to help the shooter and left the scene before police arrived. His identity and whereabouts are not known. Police have charged both Mohamed Elmi, 31 and Mohamed Salad, 29, with attempted murder in relation to the shooting. They also face other charges including unauthorized possession of a firearm and aggravated assault. Police say the shooting is not believed to be connected to “several other acts of violence in the city over the past several months.” Hours after the shooting, while praising the efforts of his co-workers, Wallace said he won’t be returning to his job. He’s worked part-time as a bouncer for about six years to make extra cash. “I’m done bouncing. I’ve had knifes pulled on me, I’ve been pepper sprayed, I’ve been beaten, but a gun is another level of things that I don’t want anything to do with,” he said. “It’s not worth it. The early-morning shooting on Sunday follows a separate shooting Saturday evening in the 5500 block of 8th Ave. S.E. that sent one victim to hospital.
