One man is dead and two people are in custody after a fatal hit-and-run crash on the southwestern edge of Calgary early Thursday morning.

Emergency crews were called to 130th Avenue and 37th Street S.W. in Woodbine just before 6:30 a.m. for reports of a crash involving a pickup truck and smaller car, EMS spokesman Stuart Brideaux said in a release.

The driver of the car, a man in his mid-30s, was declared dead at the scene.

The occupants of the truck ran from the scene, police say.

Two suspects, a man and a woman, were arrested with help from the canine unit. Police are still trying to apprehend a third man. The woman was taken to Foohills hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, EMS said.

One of the vehicles involved in the incident was a Tsuut'ina police truck, however officials have not yet released any details.

A spokesperson for the Tsuut'ina police department said the matter is under investigation.

Motorists are being asked to avoid the area as the investigation continues.
