Police investigate after 'suspicious package' spotted near two banks

Bomb technicians and tactical unit members were called around 11 a.m. to Macleod Trail and Glenmore Trail S.W. after a citizen reported spotting a suspicious package near the Bank of Montreal and the Canadian Western Bank. “We couldn’t say 100 per cent if it was or wasn’t a bomb but to make sure it was dealt with in the safest way possible, they disrupted the package,” said duty inspector Phil Hoetger. “They blew it up so it couldn’t blow up.” The banks were closed and did not need to be evacuated, but the adjacent parking lot was cordoned off by police tape. Police later closed Macleod Trail for about 10 minutes to “disrupt” the package, Hoetger said, adding the area has been deemed safe and there is currently no danger to the public. (摘自Calgary Herald) |
