Calgary bus driver scares off attacker after attempted sex assault

WATCH ABOVE: A Calgary shuttle bus driver stopped a troubling sex assault Tuesday night. A 19-year-old woman was getting off a bus when a stranger approached and assaulted her--both physically and sexually. Global's Jill Croteau has details on how the bus driver intervened.

Listen CALGARY – Police are investigating an attempted sexual assault that happened in Sandstone Valley on Tuesday, and celebrating a bus driver who scared off the predator.Investigators said the victim was getting off a bus near the intersection of Sandstone Drive N.W. and Berkshire Boulevard N.W. at around 10:45 p.m. when she was approached by a man she didn’t know.The man spoke with the victim, and assaulted her when she tried to leave. Police said the suspect then forced the woman to the ground where he tried to sexually assault her.An approaching bus scared the attacker, who ran off.

Bus driver Amandeep Hunjan called 911 and waited with the victim. She was taken to hospital in stable condition.Investigators believe the attack was random.They described the suspect as being between 18 and 20 years old, roughly 5’10” tall with a medium build. He was wearing a black baseball cap, a grey hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police or contact Crime Stoppers.With files from Global’s Jill Croteau
