Keror, 22, was gunned down in front of his Marlborough home Tuesday evening in a possible revenge attack for the 2012 killing of Philip Anny, according to Insp. Don Coleman of the Calgary Police Service.

Keror's brother, Deng Lino Keror, was convicted of second-degree murder after Anny was shot during a drug deal in the neighbouring community of Applewood.

The suspects and victim were known to each other — and to police — in connection with alleged violence, property and drug-related incidents, Coleman said.

Emmanuel Keror had a long history with police. He was due to stand trial on July 4 on charges of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon for an alleged knife attack.

He was also convicted five times for breach of bail conditions, and was facing two more such charges.

His brother, Deng, faces charges connected to a jailhouse stabbing.

Police are still trying to determine the exact motive, but say a revenge shooting is "one possibility".

Two residences in Bowness, as well as homes in Ogden and Applewood are all part of the investigation, said police.

Keror's killing is Calgary's third homicide in 2016.
