The 46-year-old's home was searched after police responded to a call of a man uttering threats as well as a firearms complaint.

Police seized 130 items from the home including a First World War-era machine gun, numerous guns as well as switchblades, a crossbow and over capacity magazines.

The man faces:

• 12 charges of unauthorized possession prohibited/restricted weapon
• 4 charges of careless use/storage of a firearm
• 2 charges of possessing a firearm/weapon obtained by commission of offence
• 2 charges of knowingly possessing a prohibited/restricted weapon
• 2 charges of unauthorized possession of a firearm
• 2 charges of possession of a controlled substance
• 1 charge of possession of marijuana exceeding 30 grams
• 1 charge of using an imitation firearm while attempting to commit an indictable offence
• 1 charge of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm

Carmen Nilsson lives across the street from the man and said she wasn't sure what was happening when police descended on the home on Saturday.

"I got a phone call from the police and they said there is a situation on your block, get into the basement and stay there until we phone you to come up," she said.

Nilsson said the man has lived in the area since "just after he was born." She described him as a quiet man who kept to himself.

There could be further charges for the man pending an investigation by the Department of National Defence and the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team.
