Can you spot the lion? Calgary's new bridge banners have hidden mascot

‘It’s kind of a Where’s Waldo,’ says Calgary artist Sheila Kernan about the lions she hid within the banners she designed for the seven bridges leading into the downtown core. (Sheila Kernan) You may have seen new banners on bridges that lead in and out of the downtown core. Collectively, the seven banners are called Our Calgary and depict our urban landscape and architecture. But if you look close enough, you can also see small images that represent a bit of a theme. "I've hidden some lions, because this year the Centre Street Bridge is turning 100, and so I kind of wanted to pay a special tribute to that," said Sheila Kernan, who designed the new banners. "Sorry, she's making it up. I don't see them," said Calgary Eyeopener host David Gray on Friday during an interview with artist Sheila Kernan. "They're not in all of the banners… But it's kind of a Where's Waldo, so you kind of have to really look," said Kernan. 
See the yellow circle? See the lions? Eureka! (Sheila Kernan) If you want to get up close to the banners, the original artwork will be on display Saturday, April 23 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Gibson Fine Art on 11 Avenue S.W.
