Mount Royal shooting: Man rushed to hospital after morning attackCalgary police are investigating a shooting that sent one person to hospital Monday morning. Police were called just after 8 a.m. to the 2200 block of 7 Street S.W. where they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He has been taken to hospital where he remains in critical conditon. His age is unknown. A Rolls-Royce with front-end damage was cordoned off by police, who were are still working to determine how many suspects may be involved, as well as a vehicle description. Minutes after the shooting, fire crews responded to reports of multiple explosions in the 3800 block of 7 St. S.W., blocks from the shooting scene. Fire department spokeswoman Carol Henke said when firefighters arrived they found a vehicle on fire in a back alley parked between two garages. Crews were able to extinguish the fire, but not before the flames damaged the garages. No injuries were reported due to the blaze and the car was empty when firefighters arrived. Laine Iozzo has lived in Mount Royal her whole life and was studying for university finals when the shooting happened. While she didn't hear the shots, Iozzo said the incident does have her worried about safety in the neighbourhood. "It's a little scary because a lot of kids that go to Western, the high school right there, they walk right down that hill," Iozzo said. "So they could have been in the crossfire."
