 Latest Edmonton city police vice sting nets 26 men More than two dozen men — the youngest 20, the oldest 70 — were arrested during a three-day city police vice sting. A total of 26 men were charged as a result of the operation that focused on “persons purchasing sexual services from sex-trade workers online” and those in the Alberta Avenue neighbourhood, along the 95 Street and 118 Avenue corridors. As a result of the operation, 21 charges of communication for the purpose of obtaining sexual services were laid along with two charges of breach of recognizance and one charge each of trafficking in a controlled substance and resist arrest. The vice unit teamed up with the Community Action Team and northwest division beat members for the operation that ran on March 2, 9 and 10. “Young families and their children live in these communities,” said vice unit Staff Sgt. Dale Johnson in a news release. “They deserve to feel safe and proud of their communities, and shouldn’t have to share their streets with ‘johns’ looking for sex. “We intend to reduce the demand for buying sexual services through enforcement efforts targeting ‘johns.’ The goal is to positively impact the neighbourhoods and businesses affected by this type of illegal activity.” A similar two-day sting in February collared 26 men whose ages ranged from 19 to 60. |
