Homicide detectives take over Edmonton baby death investigation

An ambulance was called around 7 a.m. Sunday and a police news release Sunday said the death is being treated as suspicious. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning. Catherine Griwkowsky/Postmedia Edmonton homicide detectives were taking over an investigation Monday into the death of a baby boy found at a northside home. The six-month-old baby boy was found dead after an Emergency Medical Services team was called to the home near 142 Avenue and 77 Street just before 7 a.m. Sunday. Police were called and the death has been deemed suspicious. The Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy Monday, but was not able to confirm a cause of death "pending further tests," a Monday afternoon police news release said. The death has not been ruled a homicide. Homicide charges have been laid in two other child deaths this year. In April, Anthony Raine, a 19-month-old boy, was found dead outside a north Edmonton church. His father and a woman are facing second-degree murder charges. Earlier in May, an Edmonton mother was charged with second-degree murder after her 11-day-old daughter died of a fatal meth overdose. |
