Man charged in connection with serious assault in downtown Calgary

Officers and emergency crews were called to the 200 block of 11th Avenue S.E. around 2:30 a.m. for reports of a man who was unconscious and in medical distress, say police. When they arrived, they found a 22-year-old man suffering from critical head injuries and took him to hospital. Police have not found any witnesses to the incident, but say the victim managed to flag down a passerby and asked the individual to call 911. Officers located, arrested and charged Mohammed El Fatih, 30, of Calgary, with assaulting the victim. He was also charged with robbery and with assault against a peace officer, which allegedly occurred while he was being arrested. Investigators continue seeking witnesses and urge anyone with information to contact police. Calgary Herald |
