(Rob Short/CBC) One Cochrane RCMP officer was dragged by a fleeing car, while two High River RCMP officers narrowly missed being hit at a checkstop on Saturday morning. Around 2:20 a.m. members of the Cochrane detachment were called to help an Alberta Sheriff who had stopped a suspicious vehicle on Highway 22. While RCMP were assisting the Sheriff, the white GMC Sierra pickup drove forward and dragged an officer, according to police. The truck drove into Calgary and despite help from the Calgary police, the occupants, a man and a woman, escaped. Cochrane RCMP are asking for any witnesses to come forward. High RiverA little earlier, around 12:30 a.m., High River RCMP had to be quick on their feet in order to avoid being hit by a car speeding through a checkstop.Police attempted to stop a vehicle, but it sped towards two officers who had to jump out of the way to avoid being run over, RCMP said. Okotoks RCMP located the vehicle shortly thereafter, but the driver continued to elude police. Eventually, the vehicle was damaged and became stuck, and the occupants fled on foot. According to the RCMP, two suspects, a man and a woman, were taken into custody with the help of police dogs and the Calgary police helicopter. Charges are pending. |
